ENIGMA’s Success Story with PINTU Incubator Program

Highlight

Enigma's journey through PINTU Incubator is a testament to the power of sustainable fashion. By blending Indonesian heritage with eco-friendly practices, Enigma has not only captured the attention of international buyers, but has also made significant strides in the global fashion market. With PINTU's mentorship and exposure at prestigious events like Paris Fashion Week's Première Classe, Enigma is redefining sustainable luxury and elevating Indonesian craftsmanship to the world stage.

Breaking into the international fashion scene is challenging, especially for emerging Southeast Asian brands. That’s where the PINTU Incubator program steps in. This fashion incubator supports young Indonesian designers and small businesses by offering mentorship, market exposure, and access to top fashion events. Launched by JF3, LAKON Indonesia, and the French Embassy through Institut Français d'Indonésie (IFI), PINTU Incubator promotes Indonesian heritage and bridges Indonesian and French cultures through unique collaborations.

One of the program’s success stories is Enigma, a sustainable brand founded by Elizabeth Marcellina that combines Indonesian artistry with modern design. Enigma’s latest collection, "Circularity," showcases zero-waste practices and unisex, continuous-circle silhouettes, all crafted from organic fibers by artisans in Java and Bali. This collection embodies Enigma’s commitment to sustainability and the concept of Circular Fashion, where designers, artisans, retailers, and consumers all play a part in a responsible production process.

For Enigma, participating in the Première Classe trade show at Paris Fashion Week was a game-changer. The brand learned the importance of visual branding, as busy buyers made quick judgments based on booth displays. “The PINTU program has been incredibly supportive, helping us with everything from branding to exploring the global market,” Elizabeth said. Enigma attracted interest from 8-10 international buyers from India, the UK, France, Egypt, and Russia, providing them a valuable opportunity to expand their reach.

While in Paris, Enigma’s team studied European fashion trends, visited local retailers, and adjusted their designs to appeal to global audiences. “We’re continuously innovating by adapting our designs based on what’s popular here,” Elizabeth explained.

The success of Enigma and other brands in the PINTU Incubator highlights the program’s role in transforming Indonesia’s fashion industry. By providing crucial resources and international exposure, PINTU Incubator empowers emerging designers to make their mark on the global stage, foster sustainable practices, and celebrate Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
