As part of Focus Week 2024, PINTU Incubator organized an exclusive cultural experience in Bandung, brought together 29 participants: 19 delegations from France, 3 representatives from Institut français Indonésie (IFI), and the other from the PINTU Incubator. Titled "An Inspiring Cultural Journey to Bandung," this two-day trip, held on July 29-30, 2024, invited participants to explore the rich heritage of Bandung, a city recognized as a UNESCO Creative City of Design in 2015 for its design-driven growth and emphasis on creative and cultural industries.
Their cultural trip began at Mycotech Eco Factory, a Bandung-based green startup that creates leather-like materials from agricultural waste and mushroom mycelium. Participants explored Indonesia's innovative efforts to sustainable fashion, highlighted by the production of eco-friendly leather alternatives that are both as durable and attractive as their cowhide counterparts.
The next stop was Rumah Batik Komar, a legendary Batik store and workshop established in 1998 by Batik maestro Mr. Komarudin Kudiya. Here, participants were immersed into the rich history and intricate philosophy behind traditional batik motifs. They also had a chance to craft their own Batik Tulis (hand-drawn Batik), experiencing firsthand the artistry of this age-old Batik technique.
This cultural trip wrapped up at Wot Batu, an art gallery in Bandung established by the renowned Indonesian contemporary artist, Sunaryo. Participants were appreciating visual and installation arts made by Sunaryo, and also engaged in thought-provoking discussions about art. The visit also offered an immersive look into the world of contemporary art in Indonesia.
Through the "Inspiring Cultural Journey to Bandung," PINTU Incubator demonstrated its commitment to strengthening the France-Indonesia fashion ecosystem. This cultural exchange, a highlight of the 2024 Focus Week program, fostered intercultural innovation and promoted responsible fashion practices, aiming to create a positive impact on the fashion industries of both nations.
