Emerging from Jakarta's vibrant fashion scene, FUGUKU has captured global attention with its unique blend of sustainability and cultural heritage. Founded by Savira Lavinia in 2022, FUGUKU draws inspiration from the pufferfish, or “fugu” in Japanese—an emblem of adaptability and resilience that perfectly embodies the brand’s mission. Using recycled PET bottles and traditional Indonesian jumputan (tie-dye) techniques, FUGUKU crafts eco-conscious collections that honor local craftsmanship while pushing fashion boundaries.
A standout participant in the PINTU Incubator 2023 Program, FUGUKU returned to Paris’s prestigious Première Classe Trade Show in 2024, marking its second appearance under PINTU's mentorship. Known for gathering top global buyers and influencers, Première Classe was the ideal stage for FUGUKU to showcase its new collection, "Way of Water." Inspired by the vibrant colors and organic forms of outer space, this collection combines traditional Indonesian tie-dye with a futuristic aesthetic, embodying the brand's signature mix of sustainability and style.
Reflecting on the experience, Savira shared, “The most impressive thing was seeing the visitors' surprised and positive reactions to the FUGUKU collection.” The brand’s reception was overwhelmingly positive, "We had a total of 34 leads from 14 countries: Singapore, Brazil, Switzerland, Vienna, South Korea, Germany, Dubai, England, USA, Montenegro, Hong Kong, Senegal, France, and Italy," Savira reported. This impressive international interest solidified FUGUKU's appeal as a brand that resonates beyond borders.
Savira credits much of this success to the PINTU Incubator Program, which she describes as instrumental in preparing FUGUKU for the international stage. “Since joining this incubator, I got to know what new products are like, and the inputs have been really helpful for me to further develop my brand and get closer to the international market,” she says. PINTU’s support not only provided guidance on refining products but also helped FUGUKU navigate the complexities of the global fashion business.
Following the trade show, FUGUKU has ambitious plans. “I plan to review the orders and focus on optimizing our production system,” Savira explained. She is also preparing to innovate further with new product developments for upcoming collections, signaling the brand’s dedication to continuous growth and improvement.
FUGUKU's journey with PINTU has not only opened doors to global markets but also led to collaborations with iconic Parisian institutions like the Pompidou Centre and Musée des Arts Décoratifs. This partnership will allow FUGUKU's pieces to be displayed and sold in these cultural landmarks, bringing Indonesian fashion craftsmanship to a broader audience.
The PINTU Incubator Program has been a transformative platform for FUGUKU, illustrating how a well-structured incubator program can elevate a local brand to global prominence. FUGUKU’s journey is a testament to the power of combining sustainable fashion with cultural heritage, capturing the hearts of buyers worldwide and setting a new standard for Indonesian design on the international stage.
