LAKON Indonesia once again makes a significant global stride by presenting its work at the Osaka World Expo 2025, Kansai, Japan-one of the world’s most prestigious events garnering international attention. Through the power of design, craftsmanship, and cultural storytelling, LAKON Indonesia showcases creations that elevate the richness of Indonesian textile heritage to a global audience.
The highlight took place on 8 August 2025 at the Unified Diversity Fashion Show-SOROYURU, which means “harmony in differences” in Japanese. Organized by the Jellyfish Pavilion and held at WASSE (Expo Exhibition Centre), the show featured LAKON Indonesia’s celebration of traditional handwoven textiles from West Nusa Tenggara, presented through a collection that blends traditional techniques with contemporary design.
COLLABORATION FOR INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY
For this event, LAKON Indonesia collaborated with Comfiknit, a Hong Kong-based brand known for its sustainable textile innovation. “This collaboration was born from our consistency in building a creative and competitive fashion ecosystem. It shows that our efforts are gaining global recognition,” said Thresia Mareta, Founder of LAKON Indonesia and Advisor of JF3.
WEAVING DIVERSITY ON THE GLOBAL STAGE
The Unified Diversity Fashion Show – SOROYURU brought together collections from nine countries-creating a fashion celebration where tradition meets innovation. “For us, Soroyuru is more than just a presentation. We bring Indonesia’s identity to the global stage, contributing to a story of diversity. When cultures appreciate each other, what emerges is not only beauty, but hope for a more harmonious future,” added Thresia.
STRATEGIC ROLE AT OSAKA WORLD EXPO 2025
In addition to the Soroyuru showcase, LAKON Indonesia and the JF3 Fashion Festival presented three alumni brands from the PINTU Incubator: Senses, Apakabar, and Fuguku in a rolling exhibition from 4–10 August 2025 at the Indonesia Pavilion. A total of 12 highlighted collections were displayed, combining design, craftsmanship, and cultural values.
Aligning with this participation, LAKON Indonesia also opened a pop-up store at Lucua Umeda, one of Osaka’s premium shopping centers, from 7-13 August 2025. This appearance gave Japanese audiences the opportunity to experience LAKON’s quality and design character firsthand while strengthening the brand’s positioning in the international market.
LAKON Indonesia’s presence at Osaka World Expo 2025 is part of Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy, expanding the global creative industry network while unlocking new market opportunities for Indonesian fashion in Japan.
INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
At this event, Thresia Mareta appeared as one of the designers of Soroyuru alongside esteemed Japanese designer Shinshiro Mizuno, known for his work with Givenchy, Hanae Mori, Yuki Tori, John Galliano, and Alexander McQueen, as well as his brands [fuse] and his licensed Givenchy bridal line.
Thresia Mareta is the founder of LAKON Indonesia - an integrated fashion ecosystem connecting artisans, designers, and creative industry players to preserve, develop, and adapt Indonesian craftsmanship to remain relevant in the modern fashion world, both nationally and internationally.
IMPACT & MEDIA COVERAGE
LAKON Indonesia’s presence at Osaka World Expo 2025 is not only an artistic achievement but also a statement: that Indonesian cultural heritage can engage in global dialogue through the universal language of fashion. From the hands of artisans to the spotlight of the international stage, every piece conveys messages of identity, diversity, and a sustainable future.
This event also gained attention from major Japanese media. ABC TV Japan (Asahi Broadcasting Corporation), one of Japan’s leading television stations and part of the national TV Asahi network—covered and broadcasted LAKON Indonesia’s appearance to millions of viewers across the country, particularly in the Kansai region, the host of Expo 2025. This coverage further highlights the appeal and relevance of Indonesian fashion in the global arena.
